5S Miss Stones

Welcome to Class 5S

Welcome to our exciting class page.  Here you'll be able to find links to work that we do in school and photographs of all the fun we've been having.

This term our topic is...

Reach for the Stars

This term our theme is ‘Reach for the Stars.' We will be learning about the planets in our solar system, the relationship between the Earth, sun and moon as well as studying the history of space exploration.

Who won the Space Race?

What are the phases of the moon?

Could humans survive on Mars?

Could there be life on other planets?

Furthermore, in science we will be studying 'Light.'

How does light travel?

How do we see things?

How are shadows formed and how do they change?

Topic Homework
This term we will be asking you to complete three tasks of your choosing before half term and another three before the Christmas holidays. We've got many fun and exciting activities for you to try.  If you lose the homework grid, you can get a copy from the link below.

PE and Games
Our timetabled PE and games days are a Thursday and Friday.

It's a good idea to have both your indoor and outdoor kits in school all week as we might find time to do PE on other days too.

Outdoor PE Kit required
White polo T-Shirt
Dark tracksuit bottoms and jumper (no logos)
Trainers or football boots (if already owned)
Shin pads (if already owned)
No jewellery
Long hair tied up

Indoor PE Kit
White polo T-Shirt
Black/blue shorts (no logos)
Black plimsolls
No jewellery
Long hair tied up

Please note, it is important that your child has separate indoor PE shoes to help us to look after our hall floor.

R.E.
We will be studying a variety of faiths from different cultures throughout the year and hope to have visitors to speak to the children.  This term we will be learning all about Christianity.

MyMaths Homework
Each Monday, you will be given MyMaths homework to be completed by the following Monday.

If you are unable to complete your MyMaths at home, you can come along to the MyMaths club (held on a Wednesday and Thursday lunchtime).

You will find your log on information for 'MyMaths' in your planner.  If you lose it or can't remember it, please come and speak to me and I will help you out.

High 5
Read at home a minimum of five times per week, then get it written in your planner with an adult's signature and you will be awarded a 'High 5.'  Come on 5S, let's go for it!

Times Tables
It's important to get your knowledge of times tables really secure, with instant recall of the facts up to at least 12 x 12. This is because future maths skills build on this knowledge, and without it, you will struggle later on. It's a good idea to keep practising from time to time too, because if you don't use it you might lose it.  Below, I have included a link to 'Hit the button,' which is a times tables game that we play in class and the children love it!

Each child has a focus times table to learn for a test on Friday. You might like to try some online games to sharpen your skills.
