PE and Sports
At Carr Junior we are fortunate to be able to participate in a wide range of sporting activities both in and out of school.
We love taking part in sport and each class has 1 hour of games and 1 hour of PE each week.
During this school year we will be trying lots of exciting new sports including dance, gymnastics, football, hockey, cricket, netball and swimming. Years 5 and 6 have been inspired by the Rugby World Cup and have been improving their Tag Rugby skills this term, Years 3 and 4 have been developing a range of skills (including skipping!) and Year 5 have created 'duel dances' from a Star Wars stimulus !
Whenever possible we will invite visitors into school to help us learn different sports. Last term (in the Autumn term) Year 5 were lucky enough to develop their basketball skills with Mr Baldwin from the York Schools Sports Partnership.
We will also have the opportunity to join various sports teams throughout the year. These teams will take part in lots of different competitions out of school... we have been very successful in the past and hope to be even more successful in the 2015/2016 season!
Exciting News for the Summer Term!
I am pleased to report that in the Summer Term (beginning on April 22nd 2016) Carr Junior School are beginning a 12 week project in conjunction with York City Football Club to develop football in school!
Throughout the term, all classes in school willl receive some professional coaching both in football skills and maintaining a healthy, balanced lifestyle. The programme itself has received funding from the Premier League, and is highly recommended. In addition to the class sessions, a lunchtime club will begin for pupils in Year 3 and 4... more details to follow.
Keep checking back here and in the gallery for ongoing updates, information and photos of what we get up to!
In January, Carr Junior School made a New Year's Resolution... to be more active! To launch our good intentions, a competition took place to see who could bring in the most interesting photo of them doing something physically active. Below are the entries from the overall winner and two runners up - well done you three!
