Carr Junior School

Why is art important to us?

At Carr Junior School, we encourage children to express themselves as individuals and in a creative way. We want children to feel confident to explore and develop their art skills whilst understanding the impact of art in the wider world. Art is an engaging, inclusive part of our curriculum allowing all pupils (regardless of academic ability) a chance to shine.

Our aims are for the children to:

  • Produce creative work, exploring their ideas and recording their experiences in scrapbooks

  • Develop skills in drawing, painting, sculpture and other art, craft and design techniques.

  • Evaluate and analyse creative works using the language of art, craft and design

  • Know about great artists experiencing their work inside and outside school

  • Have opportunities to work with professional artists

How we implement our art curriculum:

  •  We explore a range of artist's work, supporting children to consider share their opinions and understand and artists style

  • Our curriculum sequence of topic launch days, landing events and coverage during big idea topics

  • Trips and experiences focusing on art and artists

  • Development of work and ideas within scrap books that are high quality, and show a range of evidence

  • A creative and varied approach using a range of resources and medium including reused and recycled products
